Discover the Story of
the Former Taisha Station,
an Important Cultural Property

Since its opening in 1912,
Former Taisha Station has long been familiar as the gateway to Izumo Taisha.
The building in its current form was constructed in 1924,
so its 100th anniversary was celebrated in 2024.
While valuing the station’s status as an Important Cultural Property,
a new story now begins.

Architecture

Roof tiles modeled after the driving wheels of steam locomotives and the coffered-ceiling waiting room reveal details of skilled artisan craftsmanship.

History & Memories

This is the platform where as many as 1.4 million people once arrived each year. Experience echoes of the excitement of an era when steam locomotives were the ultimate form of overland travel.
